TV Pilots
ROCHESTER
Genre: one-hour drama, dramedy
Synopsis: After the unexpected death of her older sister, Beth McNall rushes home to Rochester, N.Y. to find she has been named the legal guardian of her two nieces. As if sudden motherhood, two bickering brothers, and an increasingly senile father weren’t enough to deal with, Beth is also suspicious that her recently deceased sister may have stolen money from the rest of the family.
What’s it like?: PARENTHOOD meets FARGO meets SUCCESSION (but with the working class)
MUST GO ON (co-written with David Ruttura)
Genre: single cam, half-hour sitcom
Synopsis: A behind-the-scenes look at Home Alone: The Musical, a long running Broadway show that everyone has forgotten about… except for the people who work there.
What’s it like?: THE OFFICE, EPISODES, SILICON VALLEY
MY SENIOR YEAR
Genre: animated, half-hour comedy
Synopsis: After a swift and multi-pronged apocalypse, (plague, robot revolution, zombie cats, and more!) only one town remains: Quaint. Behind a heavily guarded wall, the citizens of Quaint put on a brave face, going about their lives as if everything is back to normal. But they’re also severely traumatized and in severe denial. MY SENIOR YEAR follows three teenagers as they deal with their myopic high school problems… while the world around them is literally on fire.
What’s it like?: SOUTH PARK or RICK AND MORTY
TIME OUT
Genre: single cam, half-hour sitcom
Synopsis: NATE, late 20s and newly sober, is doing his best to stay dry while getting through his first week at a new job as a preschool teacher. Which he’s completely unqualified to do.
What’s it like?: SCRUBS and PARKS AND REC
Awards and stuff: Winner of the Nantucket Film Festival Showtime Award for best TV script 1/2 hour, (juried by Raul Esparza, Dave Finkel, and Jordan Cerf). Finalist for Final Draft’s Big Break Competition.
Screenplays
THE FUTURE SAYS DIE!
Genre: action/comedy, romantic/comedy, sci-fi
Synopsis: A married couple going through a rough patch must evade an assassin robot from the future that happens to look like a nine year-old boy.
What’s it like?: SHAUN OF THE DEAD meets THE TERMINATOR meets my marriage.
Awards and stuff: This script is a semi-finalist for the Nicholl Fellowship.
THIS COULD BE SOMETHING
Genre: indie dramedy, dark comedy, road trip
Synopsis: After his father’s sudden death, James attempts to use the experience to write a one man show. (He’s been told “personal tragedy is really hot right now.”) When he discovers that his father had an affair in the late 90s, James and his sister Annie go on a cross-country road trip to interview “the other woman.”
What’s it like?: YOU CAN COUNT ON ME or NEBRASKA
Awards and stuff: Selected by the Black List to be their monthly featured script and was chosen for their New York screenwriter’s lab, where it was workshopped with Beau Willimon and Leslye Headland.
